How do we see our values?
“Broad desirable goals that motivate people’s actions and serve as guiding principles in their lives”. This is emergent at the individual, family, community and company levels. And, like many things, these values are constantly changing.
We value cultural champions.
Rather than fitting the mould. This means that with each person we bring into the company and each person we work with, their values become part of Aquila. We are not looking for someone who fits in. We are looking for people to make us more extraordinary as a whole. We are looking for someone to add to our values and culture.
We're here to live our values.
Most organisations have a set of values, but few apply them when they threaten the bottom line.
For Aquila, our values are our prime directive. We would not compromise them even if it meant going out of business.
What are our values?
Endless Evolution
We endeavour to evolve every day as individuals and as a company.
How do we live this value?
- Detach from the identity and value of knowing things:
- Human nature attaches our ego to our “knowledge” as self. And here, the Dunning-Kruger effect subconsciously forces humans to assume we know everything. Once we learn of a mistake or hear criticism, this will threaten our health.
- See this for what it is. Instead, see the value in consciously not knowing things. See those moments when we identify with knowledge and stop it.
- Attach to the value of learning: The growth mindset
- Making a conscious decision to value growth is a practice.
- When ignorance/mistakes are discovered, we celebrate.
- When the challenge of learning is felt, we feel satisfied.
- Stay Humble:
- When we feel like we are learning how little we know, it's a symptom of the right place to be.
- Discomfort is a symptom of being in a highly dynamic, growing environment.
- Finding comfort within the discomfort of learning seems like a contradiction. But it's not. Discover that, too.
- Constructive Criticism and Support
- We support each other to learn. Our actions and emotions emerge to create the community we live in, which in turn shapes us.
- Encourage others around you to be their best self. In turn, that will be returned naturally.
Radical Authenticity
We stay true to ourselves and always pursue what we find intrinsically meaningful.
How do we live this value?
- Take the time to find who you are, what you value, and what you need.
- Use that to become motivated, curious, energised and driven.
- Accept it. Live it. Practice it.
